On 22 October, thirty disadvantaged families in Selangor received food rations and an educational boost at a Laptop Presentation and Diwali Charity Giveaway jointly organised by the Universal Peace Federation Malaysia and other associates of the Peacebuilders Network Malaysia including the Women’s Federation for World Peace Malaysia and Ajar-ajar Malaysia.
Six outstanding students from these families were given refurbished laptops to support their tertiary education, and one student received cash support. The families also heard a career talk by a motivational lecturer, Mr A. Arulnathan, and later received grocery packs at the event held in SJK(T) Telok Panglima Garang.
The Guest of Honour, YB Papparaidu Veraman, Selangor EXCO member for Human Resource and Poverty Eradication, commended the organisers for empowering the students and raising future leaders through this project.
The President of Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Malaysia, Mdm Lina Cheng emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and gave words of encouragement to the students.
Dr. Udesh Chaskar, UPF Youth Ambassador for Peace, said: “I hope the laptop recipients will be successful in their studies as well as give back to society through community service and social work.”
Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, UPF has been consistently handing out food rations and essential items to families suffering from financial burden under the Circle of Light Humanitarian Aid. 4,000 affected families have since benefitted from this programme.
The associates of NGOs and well wishers of the Peacebuilders Network are keen to support the many initiatives of the Madani government for the B40 and underprivileged communities.
