On 31 May 2022, Pres. Masaichi Hori, Co-Chair of UPF Asia Pacific and Dr. Julius Malicdem, Director of UPF South East Asia paid a courtesy visit to Datuk Muhammad Nasir Hamzah, Deputy Chairman of Karangkraf Media Group arranged by UPF Malaysia at the Headquarter of Karangkraf in Shah Alam.
During the visit, UPF and Sinar discussed on collaboration opportunities to promote values of harmony and peace in the family for nation-building. Datuk Nasir was also nominated as Advisor for the International Media Association for Peace (IMAP) Asia Pacific.
Datuk Nasir introduced Sinar Harian (Sinar Daily) as the only independent media company in Malaysia and has recently embarked on the Rasuah Busters (Corruption Busters) initiative to create awareness among the public.
In an interview, Pres. Hori expressed his hopes for the media to play the role of “window” for people’s voice and express the views of the silent majority.
“The support of the media towards NGOs is especially important to in upholding good moral values in society,” said Pres. Hori.
Meanwhile, Asst Prof Sudesh, President of UPF Malaysia, explained that UPF Malaysia is focusing on programmes advocating ‘selfless leadership’, a leadership ethic which puts the benefit of others before our own for the sake of greater good.
“We are inspired by Sinar’s ideals and values and believe this collaboration will help equip our future young leaders with moral leadership to save our country.”
Also present were Mr. Rozaid Abdul Rahman, Group Editor-in-Chief of Sinar Harian Group, Mr Lai Peng Keong, National Liaison Director of UPF Malaysia, Mr Joachim Ng, Vice President of UPF Malaysia and Mdm. Lina Cheng, President of Women’s Federation for World Peace Malaysia.
